He performs other surgical procedures like Sleeve Gastrectomy and mini or laparoscopic gastric bypass, as well. He has expertise in performing advanced laparoscopic, bariatric, and robotic surgeries. While working in Delhi NCR, he pioneered the development of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery, which treats diabetes and morbid obesity. Dr. Sumit Talwar is a pioneer of Gastro-intestinal Cancer Surgery for treating GI cancers like pancreatic cancer, hepato-biliary cancer, colorectal cancer, etc. This surgical procedure was focused on providing minimally invasive laparoscopic treatment for these cancer types. He created a fresh technique of performing a ‘Scarless Surgery’ (Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery) of various body parts like the gallbladder and appendix. This technique was cost-effective because he used routine equipment and instruments. He still routinely performs various surgeries such as Mediastinal tumour surgeries, lung surgeries, and various laparoscopic surgeries successfully. He has successfully done over a hundred laparoscopic surgeries, apart from other types of surgeries. He has also performed laparoscopic appendicectomy, sleeve resection laparoscopic surgery, hernia repair surgery, splenectomy, and other critical surgeries successfully. He pioneered lung surgery, oesophagal surgery, and thoracoscopic surgery as well. He holds membership in the Medical Council of India and the Delhi Medical Council.
